Zinc Whiskers
Zinc Whiskers are a phenomenon that can occur on some wood-core computer room floors. The whiskers can grow on the underside of floor panels and on the under structure.
Harmless if attached to the floor, the whiskers become capable of severe damage if they become airborne and come to rest inside your equipment. After all, Zinc is a conductor of electricity. So if a whisker comes to rest on an exposed circuit card inside your equipment, it could cause equipment failure or a short.
